Sixth Form Information

Our Offer

Students choosing to study at Driffield Sixth Form will have the option to choose three, or four A Levels /Level 3 equivalents.

They will not sit external AS Level examinations as these will not count towards the final A Level grade under the new A Level framework.

Students will sit formal mock examinations at the end of Year 12 to allow progress to be measured prior to applications being made to University courses and apprenticeships.

Alongside their A Level choices they will be expected to participate fully in an enrichment curriculum that offers them to chance to build a competitive portfolio for applications to employment, apprenticeships and University. These enrichment options will include volunteering opportunities, work experience and the chance to gain further qualifications.

Students who require it are also able to take a resit in English Language and/or maths.

Entry Criteria

Students will need to gain 5 GCSEs at 9-5 to access A Level Courses and 4 GCSEs at 9-4 to access vocational courses. They will be encouraged to gain a grade 5 in the subject that they wish to study at Level 3, but in some subject areas such as maths and the sciences they will need to gain a grade 6. In addition, to study psychology students will need a 6 in Maths or science.

Guidance

Throughout the year students are given interview opportunities, with both Sixth Form staff and an impartial careers advisor, where they will receive individual guidance to ensure that they make the right choices for their future.

How to apply

Prospective students should apply via the application form here, so that we can begin timetabling courses as soon as possible.

Applications should be submitted by 31 December and after this date we start to assign students to courses and organise timetables. We will accept late applications right up until the start of September, but you may find that there is less choice available if subjects are already full.

External Applicants

If you are applying from a different school we recommend you contact us on (01377) 253631 ext. 144

Sixth Form Induction Taster Sessions

Our Inductions take place in July for prospective applicants to get a taster for Sixth Form lessons.
