Careers and Raising Aspirations

Aims

Young people are faced with a complex set of demands when preparing for their future careers. Driffield Sixth Form aims to ensure that students are self-confident, skilled and career-ready. This is achieved through a comprehensive programme of activities to help them choose pathways that are right for them and to be able to manage their careers and sustain employability throughout their lives. Our programme starts in Year 7 through Year 13, and is based on the nationally recognised Gatsby Benchmarks.

The programme follows the eight Gatsby Benchmarks of Good Career Guidance which are:

1. A stable careers programme
2. Learning from career and labour market information
3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
5. Encounters with employers and employees
6. Experiences of workplaces
7. Encounters with further and higher education
8. Personal guidance

Careers guidance takes place as part of our personal development programme, with input from external speakers and access to members of the Sixth Form team and an impartial careers advisor.

In addition a dedicated enrichment session is available to all Year 12 students offering an opportunity to develop employability skills.
