SEND Bulletin no. 2 October 2020

Edition 18 -  Thursday 15 October 2020

Spotlight on... Consultations for SENDIASS
The Local Authority must provide a SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service) for parents/carers and children and young people with special educational needs or/and disabilities up to the age of 25. The service offers:
·        free, confidential, impartial information, advice and support covering SEND issues including health & social care
East Riding of Yorkshire currently commissions East Riding SENDIAS service to provide information, advice and support for parents/carers and children up the age of 16 and KIDS to provide the service for children and young people up the age of 25.
The contracts for both services will come to an end on 31 August 2021.
To prepare for the contracts ending the Local Authority needs to plan for what the service will look like from 1 September 2021.

In order to assist us with designing the SENDIAS service from 1 September 2021, we would like to gain your opinion regarding the SENDIASS service post September 2021. We are keen to gain the views of potential service users as well as current and previous service users therefore you do not have to have used the service previously to be able to contribute your feedback to this consultation. It is really important to us that as many voices contribute as possible, the SENDIAS service is designed for service users and therefore, it must meet the needs of the East Riding of Yorkshire population.
The link below takes to you to a survey which has been designed with a variety of people including parents/carers and young people who have accessed the SENDIAS services.

The consultation lasts from Thursday 13 August until Thursday 22 October 2020.

East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum (EYPCF)
Welcome to Claire Thomas - Participation Coordinator and Trudy Cooper – Administrator - both newly appointed to EYPCF.

Claire Thomas – Participation Coordinator
I am thrilled to have started work with East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum and look forward to collaborating with parents and carers and the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.   My working experience includes the private and public sectors, higher education and 20 years in the voluntary and community sector.  It was my experience as a Summer Play scheme Worker for KIDS Yorkshire and the Humber that sparked my passion for working with and supporting charities and community groups.  I spent a number of years with Hull & East Yorkshire Mind and have also provided infrastructure support for charities and social enterprises in the East Riding.  If you are a parent or carer who would, in confidence, be happy to share your experiences, please get in touch.  Our mission is to ensure that we shape and improve SEND services.

Trudy Cooper – Administrator
I was previously a Registered Care Manager with 15 years experience in the Care Industry and later 8 years experience in a Media Management role as the Logistics Manager for PA Media Group. I took redundancy from this role after 8 years to be with my then very young family and to care for my middle child who has additional needs. I was heavily involved in the Riverside Special School Campaign and remain passionate about our Special Needs young people and adults and ensuring that all are appropriately supported. I am thrilled to now have the opportunity to work with the EYPCF and am excited about helping to improve local services for families who care for children and young people with SEND.
