Mr Wilson to run the London Marathon for Spiers Bank House Trust

We are thrilled that Mr Wilson, Head of Year 7, is to run the London Marathon this April to raise funds for Spiers Bank House.

Mr Wilson has been a club runner with the Yorkshire Wolds Runners for the past 5 years. He has already completed the Humber Bridge, Edinburgh and Manchester half marathons; however this will be his first full marathon. Currently, Mr Wilson is training 3 to 4 times per week, with one of those sessions being a long run; and he hopes to complete the marathon in less than 5 hours.

After school on Friday 24th April, Mr Wilson will travel down to London. On the Saturday morning he will collect his race number and then will do a final park run before the big day. On Sunday 26th April, Mr Wilson will be cheered on in London by his wife, daughter and other family members, as well as by many of the Driffield School & Sixth Form staff and students watching from home.

Driffield School and Sixth Form has always had a proud tradition of being a community centred school and this has involved offering a range of opportunities for students to share unique experiences. Last year, a new Spiers Bank Committee worked hard to maintain, repair and reopen the centre to enable the annual Year 7 tutor groups visit to start again, with July 2019 seeing approximately 200 students make use of the centre, enjoying a range of games and activities to make sure that as a school we are about so much more than just striving for academic excellence. The centre will be used by departments throughout the year for all year groups; as well as being available for hire by members of the community and interested parties, who can enquire by contacting Mrs Maple at the school reception.
