Key Stage 4 Pathways

Year 5 Science Experience Day

On Wednesday 13th March, a fantastic group of Year 5 students from Driffield Junior School and North Frodingham School came up for the day to experience Science at Driffield School & Sixth Form.  Upon arrival they immediately became immersed in a forensic discovery day: a ‘crime’ scene. Throughout the day they had to work in groups to examine evidence from the ‘crime’ scene and use forensic techniques to discover who had committed the ‘crime’. They analysed handwriting from a letter left at the scene and used chromatography techniques. They also analysed footprints and fingerprints from the scene and they had to analyse fibres left there using microscopes.  The day concluded with each group describing the evidence they had found and deciding who had committed the crime. Mrs Backhouse, Director of Science, said “The children and staff were so enthusiastic. It was a pleasure to have them at the school - budding scientists of the future!  They were a credit to their schools”.
