Doctors make warning after child swallows magnets.

Children in school kept putting magnets on the outside and inside of their cheek to try and make it look like cheek piercing until a child aged 12 swallowed 4 of them and needed lifesaving surgery to remove the magnetic balls.

Doctors have put out warnings of these magnets on the 13th of February about this. Ever since he swallowed these they said they put out the warnings because these little incidents could make injuries maybe a death.

Parents fined £24 million for children’s holidays during term time

In the East Riding of Yorkshire 30+ people per 1,000 have been fined for going on holiday during term time during 2016-17. Many people have been fined £24 million in England and Wales (Scotland and Northern Ireland don’t get fined). Some councils are issuing penalties at rates five times higher than average. Devon had the most students off due to holidays. Half of parents admit they break term time rules to avoid peak prices but nearly half of them will lie about it. Dave Brian and his wife Hannah took their 3 children to Florida and refused to pay the £60 fine. He said he would take them out of school again. Would you ever take your child out of school?

After a few hours, Pedro Ruiz was pronounced dead.

Right Wing Journalist Prevented From Entering the UK

Canadian Journalist Lauren Southern has been detained in Calais and prevented from entering the UK. Ms Southern, who previously worked for the right wing Canadian site Rebel Media, was refused entry to the UK with her claiming that she was ‘Officially banned from the UK for racism’ on her twitter. People believe that Ms Southern was detained over her open criticism of Islam.  Ms Southern wanted to enter the UK with hopes of interviewing ex leader of the EDL, Tommy Robinson. The journalist was allegedly asked questions about if she was a Christian extremist and how she felt about running over people with cars. The home office gave a statement on the situation saying ‘Border Force has the power to refuse entry to any individual’ which creates the question of 'Is the government restricting the freedom of the press?'

YOUTH SUB-CULTURE:MODS by Ruben Syrett

YOUTH SUB-CULTURE:MODS

Mods, Soulboys ,punks and skinheads: at one time young people made it clear what culture and music they were into by the way they dressed. But nowadays it doesn’t seem so obvious.

Being interested in the MOD culture myself I have always been intrigued as to where these cults have gone now. Only a few youths are trying to keep these eccentric sub-cultures alive. Music has an extremely large effect on youths nowadays, but todays music is not the same as yesterdays. The Jam, The Who, The Happy Mondays all are what we would call ‘yesterday's’ music, now kids are been brainwashed by RAP music which rhymes about drugs and guns instead of sharp looking youths on Lambretta scooters.

I spoke to a young MOD follower and he said “his dad liked the music and the clothes” and he just followed on from that, “the fact they are like a brotherhood” makes him love this cult even more. “This cult should be kept alive because it is another door to open for British youths”.

Jamie Carragher Spits at Manchester United fan after shocking Defeat.

Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, spat at a Manchester United fan following the Merseyside club’s defeat.

A Danish television channel has now pulled Carragher from its coverage of Manchester United vs Sevilla on Tuesday. Carragher tweeted, “It was totally out of order and I’ve apologised personally to all the family. I was goaded 3/4 times along the motorway while being filmed and lost my rag. No excuse, apologies.”

In the video, Carragher exchanges waves with the girl's dad. Carragher winds down his window while the girl's dad winds down his passenger side window. The dad can then be heard shouting: "Unlucky Jamie lad. Two, one."Carragher reacts by leaning out of his window and spitting towards the car, hitting the girl, who is sitting in the front passenger seat.

Carragher had been due to be working as a pundit for Danish television channel TV3 Sport, which is part of the Modern Times Group media company, for Manchester United's Champions League game at home to Sevilla on Tuesday. However, he has been pulled from their coverage as they investigate the spitting incident, with MTG Sport executive vice-president Peter Norrelund saying they had sent an employee to speak to Carragher before deciding what further action to take.

North Korea and the United States of America have agreed to begin ground breaking talks about denuclearisation which are planned take place in the month of May. According to South Korea’s envoy Chung Eui-Yong, in his recent talks with the North Korean leader, Kim has expressed great interest with having these talks with the leader of the free world. However, according to a tweet made by President Trump, sanctions will be kept in place on the dictatorship until an agreement is made.

However, even if the denuclearisation goes through, there will still be little hope in sight for a unified Korea with the Kim family having a very fixed vision of staying in power. Therefore, denuclearisation is just one step to creating peace on the Korean Peninsula and not the whole process.

Driffield school student Brandon Clubley, who is currently in, has managed to bag a place in a West End show in two years’ time.

Having already danced at Disneyland Paris twice, he has now got a place on (arguably) the world’s best known stage for theatre and dance. He told us, “My greatest achievement is dancing in the west in 2 years’ time.”

Brandon started dancing at the very young age of four years old. He currently dances at Collette Tyler School of Dance. “I like all dances but my favourite is modern,” he told us.

Commitment is a key part of success and Brandon is definitely that. Dancing 16 hours a week, he says it is worth it. “I want to be a professional dancer in the West End but when I leave school, I want to go to a dance school first.”

Brandon has definitely proved that he is a star to look out for.

At Driffield School on the 6th of February, the school held its 3rd Personal Development Day to a great success. It helped the students to truly understand the importance of viewing different opportunities and utilising them to their advantage.

Opportunities included speaking with the Hull York Medical School about possible future career options, and there were a variety of talks held in the West Hall.

But what exactly is the importance of exploring your own opportunities? Planning ahead makes future choices easier for many, and as a result it becomes much less difficult to achieve higher paid jobs and progress in your career.

Personal development opportunities such as what the school offers are crucial to development on career ladders and within a generalised life. Choices such as NCS give you valuable career advice and guidance that will ultimately help you to progress mentally and physically through these crucial stages in your life. They also allow you to do something worthwhile to make a strong difference to your community.

Statistics show that those who volunteer within their community and make a contribution that makes a difference to them and to those around them will allow them to achieve a 27% higher rate of success in finding and keeping a job (and starting the journey to forming a career.).

Stephen Hawking Dies Aged 76

Stephen Hawking was diagnosed with a disease called ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) and was given only two years to live when he was just 21 years old. His thoughts at the time: ‘The realisation that I had an incurable disease that was likely to kill me in a few years was a bit of a shock.’

But extraordinarily he lived for an outstanding amount of 54 years more! Most people who are diagnosed with ALS will only live for the amount given. ALS is a very rare disease to be diagnosed. Professor Stephen Hawking’s death is unknown at this time but medics predict that it was from old age and his ALS condition. Stephen Hawking died on the 14thMarch 2018 at his home in Cambridge.

One of his very famous quotes: “The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge.” – Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking was very lucky with how long he lived. Only 5% of ALS patients live to 20 years more. And it is unheard / very rare to live another 50 years with ALS which is outstanding!

It has been sad to see Hawking go.
