Staff Long Service Awards

On Tuesday 16th July, two long serving Driffield staff members were honoured with a long service award. Mrs Dalton, Deputy Headteacher, and Mr Duke, Head of PE, have both just completed their 25th year at Driffield School & Sixth Form and share with us some of their memories of working in the school.

Mrs Dalton

“When I first walked into Driffield School and Sixth Form as a student teacher in 1992 I knew instantly it was a special place and that it was somewhere that I would want to stay. I have seen many changes in the time that I have been here both in terms of the school buildings and people within them. I sometimes still call North Building Lower School. It hasn’t always been plain sailing, but I am immensely proud to say that I am part of such an amazing place. What makes the school so special are the fantastic students and the community that support them. Driffield School and Sixth Form is truly at the heart of the community. I am delighted that we continue to move from strength to strength, whilst recapturing some of the features that make us so special, such the sponsored walk and visits to Spiers Bank House”.

Mr Duke

“Having worked out that I have been at Driffield School and Sixth Form for over half my life time, I must really like the place! I have some fantastic memories of both staff and students and this made me realise why Driffield School is such a great place to work. There have been a few low points, but these have been massively outweighed by the highlights. Some of my fondest moments have been when we have reached many regional football finals, fantastic days at Headingley cricket ground and an unforgettable day at Trent Bridge in the national under 15 cricket final. I’ve made some wonderful friends at Driffield School, as well as in the wider community, and although I am nearly 50 I’ll still be wearing the shorts whatever the weather! Long may it continue”.

Congratulations and thank you to both Mrs Dalton and Mr Duke for their lasting commitment, enthusiasm and drive that has helped thousands of students over the years to fulfil their potential.
