Girls’ National Football Tournament

The first round saw the team travelling away to St Mary’s where we played a tough team. The girls worked really hard to see the game through, with Tess scoring a hat-trick. The score ended Driffield 3, St Mary’s 2. Man of the match went to Brooke.

Next round was held at home where the girls faced Pocklington. In the pouring rain both teams battled hard, but in the end Driffield took the win. With goals from Tess, Abbey and Rosie, the game ended 6-3 to Driffield. Man of the match this time going to Abbey.

After our 6-3 win we headed to Grimsby where we played a very good side, but saw the game through winning 4-2. Goals came from Abi (who scored a wonder goal) Tess, Abbey and Rosie. Man of the match was awarded to Abi Howland.

Driffield were now through to the last 32 in the whole of England, which was an amazing achievement. This was an even game which went right down to the final whistle. It included both teams getting a penalty. Balby School slotted theirs away, which was unlucky as Brooke was close to a brilliant save. Unfortunately, Driffield missed their penalty. It was a great game, with the result ending 3-2 to the Balby team. Goals this time came from Tess and Abbey. Man of the match went to Mia Duggan.

Match reporter Tess said “Much appreciation to all the girls who took part and thank you to Mr Fisher for organising and coaching”.
