Student Investor Challenge

In October five teams from Driffield School embarked on the Student Investor Challenge. The Student Investor Challenge is a competition for 14-19 year olds which gives a taster of buying and selling shares to make a profit. The Challenge is free thanks to the support of the FTSE and Bloomberg.  Teams compete against other teams in school, as well as teams across the world. There are many prizes to win including the top prize of an all-expenses paid trip to New York with £200 spending money for each team member.

Each team, consisting of four students, has 2 portfolios of virtual money to invest in the stock market. By reviewing and analysing market information, they select shares and make judgements of when to buy and sell in order to maximise profit. With share prices provided by Bloomberg, a provider of financial data, news and analytics, the Student Investor Challenge is the most realistic share trading competition available.

Currently Team Phoenix, made up of Year 11 students Yasmin, Lucy, Rosey and Lydia, are in 250th position out of 5500 teams. They aim to be in the top 200 at the end of January and make the next round to be in with a chance of winning the trip to New York.

Good Luck Team Phoenix!
