Duke of Edinburgh

The Driffield School and Sixth Form's Duke of Edinburgh Unit has had a successful start to its first year as a Directly Licensed Centre. 2018 has already seen some impressive achievements from our 16 Bronze participants, 10 Silver participants, and 5 Gold participants. Our Bronze Award students have now completed their expedition section which concluded with a rather chilly overnight at Allerthorpe during their qualifying expedition. Our Silver participants are readying themselves to undertake their qualifying expedition during the Easter holidays, after successfully completing their practice expedition at the end of October. Our sixth form participants who are undertaking the Gold award are busy plotting their routes for their practice expedition which is also due to go out in the Easter holidays; and they will complete their expedition section during the summer of 2019 with their final Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Lake District.

Miss Richardson-Yates, Duke of Edinburgh Manager, said “I am very proud of the efforts of our young people in working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards. I will be holding a recruitment event in the coming weeks for new participants to sign up to do their DofE, which will be aimed at students in Year 9 who would be starting their Bronze Award level. Students in higher year groups are welcome to sign up to begin their Duke of Edinburgh Award - any student in Year 10 or above can sign up to Bronze Level, or start directly at Silver; and students aged 16 or over can begin working towards their Gold Award. If your child is interested in undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh Award (at any of the three levels) then please ask them to write an expression of interest and hand in to Miss Richardson-Yates. An assembly will be held in due course for Year 9 students with more information about the Duke of Edinburgh award as well”.
