Fantastic Opportunity for School Drummers

Former drummer to punk band Exploited Ian Purdie, from Linlithgow in Scotland, visited Driffield School on Friday 19th October to speak and demonstrate drum techniques to a selection of drum students at the school. Ian taught students drum techniques, styles and spoke about his career as a drummer in the music profession, giving students a wider understanding how the styles of drumming suited punk and other genres.

Students had chance to demonstrate their ability to the group and then Ian was able to respond with hints and feedback on how to improve. Mr Couper, Head of Music, said ‘This is a great opportunity for professional musicians to share their experience and ability so students can aspire to one day have the same opportunities themselves. This broadens the students’ understanding to learn about the hard work involved in playing an instrument, but know there are rewarding outcomes as a result’.
