For the sheer enjoyment of experiencing poetry through performance

Over 20,000 young people have benefitted from Andy Craven-Griffiths’ writing and performance workshops since he began running them in 2007. As a poet he has performed most extensively live on stage (Glastonbury, Latitude, BAC) but has also had work broadcast (Radio 1, Radio 4, BBC 2). Currently, Andy is one of Radio 3’s Verb New Voices, is Lead Writer on various children’s writing projects, is one of Curve Theatre’s WritersLab writers, is part of the Midnight Run team (themnr.com), and is working part time on a PhD in Creative Writing. Andy is also lead singer / rapper with his band ‘Middleman’.

This week we have been extremely excited to invite Andy back for a third year to Driffield School to work with a wide range of our young people across the age ranges. Initially Andy took an assembly of Year 10 pupils who are currently mid-way in preparing for their English Literature exams in Year 11. Andy then ran smaller, more focused workshops with pupils – encouraging exploration of emotions through the written word and performance. This was a wonderful opportunity to experience poetry delivered in an inspiring way through workshops and performance.

Mrs Newbold, Teacher of English, said “Finally, to top off what had been a fantastic opportunity for our students, Andy gave a final performance along with exam guidance to our current Year 11 students whose English Literature poetry exam was the next day”.
