Driffield Year 7 v Pocklington School County Cup First Round

date: 2018-06-15

On a lovely evening for cricket, Driffield Year 7 entertained their local rivals Pocklington School in the first round of the York’s Cup. They were put into bat by the opposing captain. With boundaries short and the mowed outfield very long, it made for an interesting game. Stabler batted aggressively early on and after some hard hitting he left for 11. Kelly started to pick his boundaries early and ably supported by Greenlaw he made his 50 before the 10th over. This however was only the start and he accelerated quickly making his 100 in the 14th and 150 in the last over. Head of PE, Mr Duke, said “It was a tremendous innings from such a young talent”.

A shell shocked Pocklington started positively and their openers looked strong, hitting the boundary regularly and running sensibly. After early wickets fell however, Driffield used all 11 players to bowl and credit must go to Hartley and Brigham who bowled their first overs for school with a terrific line and length. Their innings closed on 140. A second round game against trust rivals South Hunsley awaits.
