GCSE Students Attend Saturday Revision Class

date: 2018-05-25

As their English Literature GCSE exams approached, 185 Year 11 students at Driffield School came into school on Saturday 19th May to get an extra boost for their revision.  The new GCSE for English Literature means that the final grade relies completely on exams that test Driffield students’ understanding of Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls and a selection of fifteen poems.  Director of English, Richard McDonald, explained that, “as students don’t get copies of the texts, detailed knowledge of them is crucial and many students need extra support in their revision for these challenging exams”.

As a result, the school’s English department came in on a Saturday to run a three-hour revision session to help students prepare, working with the revision strategies students have also been following in lessons.  185 students took advantage of the extra support session - including John Waites, who was celebrating his sixteenth birthday on the day!  John said: “It was useful to come in as we revised a lot and spending my birthday in school was surprisingly good.”
