Excellent Start to the Cricket Season

date: 2018-05-25

The cricket season has finally arrived! On Thursday 17th May, Driffield U15s took part in the ‘Chance to Shine’ Super Eights Softball Cricket Tournament at Beverley Cricket Club. We fielded both a boys and girls team in the tournament.

The U15 Boys team started the competition well, scoring an impressive 108 from seven overs.  Beverley Grammar School could only reach 48 after excellent bowling from our players. We then lost to Wolfreton in a close encounter the following game, leaving all teams in the group tied on one win each. An impressive run rate of 2.1 sent Driffield through as group champions. We met South Hunsley in the final and were set a score of 91 to chase. The Driffield boys battled hard to reach this total but could only make 71. An impressive second place finish.

The U15 Girls were crowned East Yorkshire Champions, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. The girls played teams from St Mary’s College, Beverley Grammar, Headlands, Howden, Newland School for Girls and Wolfreton. We faced South Hunsley in the final. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, a score of 79 was set for South Hunsley to chase. Excellent bowling kept South Hunsley’s run rate low and after seven overs South Hunsley reached a score of 59.

The girls will now move forward to the Yorkshire Final at Shaw Lane Cricket Club, Barnsley in June.

Well done to all students involved!
